Headline — "School racism row: Parents don’t want a black principal" — doesn't mean what I thought.

It's news from Johnannesburg, South Africa:
School Governing Body member Henry Charles said... “During the process we were asked what criteria are we going to use with race. I stood up and said I would score five for coloureds and I’ll score four for black people... They said coloureds and blacks are the same and I said but this is a coloured area and they said I am being racist. We want a coloured principal because this is a coloured area”....

The department spokesman Oupa Bodibe said: “The department has learnt the disturbing news that the community in Klipspruit West has rejected the principal because of skin colour. This action is strongly condemned, as it runs against the non-racial principles of our society. Educators are appointed on the basis of qualification and experience.”
IN THE COMMENTS: Paco Wové asks:
So, why are you getting news from South African school districts? Do you have some kind of Racial Grievance Aggregator news feed software running?
I answer:
I have a Google alert set up for Robin Givhan, whose writing I enjoy. Her name appeared in an article in IOL (which I'd never heard of) called "Why Serena was victorious in her nakedness," which I clicked on but wasn't interested in blogging. There was a 5-item "most read" list on the page:

1. News of son's death kills dad
2. Man breaks car's window, tries to snatch girl from dad
3. School racism row: Parents don’t want a black principal
4. Fears of ‘Ramaphosa camp’ purge
5. Kushe ucansi emcimbini kamaskandi eMabhida

Tempting as #5 is, I chose #3.

The predominately black inner city high schools schools in my city get black principals EVERYTIME and have for decades upon decades upon decades. The thought of a white principal at these schools is laughable - call it what you will. I know, because I spent 37 years as a teacher there for immigrant and refugees there. There's much more I could elaborate on but won't. It is what it is.

Olson Johnson: All right... we'll give some land to the niggers and the chinks. But we don't want the Irish!

[everyone complains]

Olson Johnson: Aw, prairie shit... Everybody!

[everyone rejoices]

That's not real racism, though, because they aren't white.

We've gone from "judge a man by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin" to "Fuck White People" in the blink of an eye. We'll be handing out PMS color strips in a few years.

It seems to me it is exactly what you thought it meant. Someone was rejected because they don't belong based on a physical criteria, and not based on merit.

Historically, coloreds were shat on by EVERYONE in South Africa, including Blacks, because they were seen as remnants of everyone's ancestors' "mistakes". They didn't fit in with Whites during Apartheid (obviously), and they didn't fit with the Black groups that were generally based on tribal/political affiliation (Xhosa being more socialist/ANC and Zulus and their N'debele cousins being more conservative, etc.), and they didn't fit with the Asians (i.e. Indians and a few Malay).

Post-Apartheid, it's an ethnic/tribal free for all and all groups guard their prerogatives jealously.

Class diversity is a principle of the progressive South African constitution. In fact, it may be the only constitution in the world that discriminates between individuals based on the color of their skin.

"Africa For The Chinese"

The Chinese are colonizing Africa. Perhaps that's why they ended their Pro-Choice/one-child policy.

Apartheid was not apartheid.

The same thing happened in the Western hemisphere, but progressives insist on characterizing people in color classes and monolithic blocs.

#5 is about a drunken massed orgy at a music festival.

Nonwhite people can't be racist.
Many of you understand that racism is the systemic oppression of a minority group, and understand the fact--yes, the fact--that it's therefore not possible for white people to be victims of racism, but you fail to understand that ONLY white people can be racist against others. Sure, some nonwhite people may oppress other nonwhite people (or even white people), but that's just prejudice or bigotry, and neither of those is in any way similar to racism...nor anywhere near as bad. It's just a fact: a mathematical identity. Only white people can be racists.
Also only white Europeans are guilty of slavery. Sure, almost all other cultures throughout human history have had slavery of one sort or another, up to and including the current day (in places like Africa and Asia), but that wasn't real slavery. Come to think of it, real slavery was only present in the United States. I mean, the vast majority of black people taken from Africa as slaves did not go to the US, but slavery in other places doesn't count as much...and anyway it was still white Europeans behind it and white Europeans settled the US, so the US is the guiltiest. Also white Europeans didn't really end slavery worldwide...I mean, factually speaking they did, but since real slavery was their idea and their fault anyway they don't get credit for ending it.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah! Nonwhite people can't be racist. Only people who haven't successfully confronted and overcome whiteness disagree. You're not one of those people, are you?

As a favor to me, and likely others reading this post, can someone explain the difference between "black" and "coloured" in South Africa? I think I have a basic understanding, but am willing to learn more.

Blacks in South Africa are the members of the several Bantu peoples, like Zulu, Xhosa, etc. Coloureds are people of mixed (mostly white/black) race, a very heterogeneous group. Most of them speak Afrikaans. The term Coloureds/gekleurdes is often associated with the Apartheid era, and they are now mostly called bruin mense, brown people.
Wikipedia has a very informative article about Coloureds (South Africans use British spelling): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coloureds

It helps the powers that be if they can play one group off against another. So it helps if there are more groups.
If, after the Civil War, the freed blacks and the poor whites--who had similar interests--had combined, the plutocracy would have had a very bad time.
