"Look, I don’t like tweeting. I have other things I could be doing."

"But I get very dishonest media, very dishonest press. And it’s my only way that I can counteract. When people make misstatements about me, I’m able to say it and call it out."

Said Trump. People like to portray him as tweeting out of an irrepressible urge to blurt out random thoughts. It fits the hopeless-narcissist template. Of course, he rejects that template, and that serves his interests. He might be lying.
“Now if the press were honest, which it’s not, I would absolutely not use Twitter,” he told host Ainsley Earhardt on “Fox & Friends," adding, "I wouldn’t have to.”
If that's a bluff, it's impossible to call.

What will Trump do if Twitter goes out of business? Send mass texts?

Bob Ellison said...

mccullough, I've been wondering about that. Presumably several companies (Facebook, Snapchat, etc.) have already been in touch with Trump, trying to woo him away from Twitter, which really is twitting on splindly legs, financially. "Come use our platform! We'll make a new platform for you!" And 15 million people would come with him right away.

If you really believe Trump hates tweeting, and sits there reluctantly typing out his tweets, thinking "oh why must I be forced to do this? What I would give to not have to do this!" then send me a message as I have a great piece of land you'll absolutely want to buy and get in on the ground floor of a can't miss business opportunity.

Use its replacement. Look at Gab.
Or as Bob says, any number of established systems.
What was that about Google trying to make nice?

I think this might suit Trump the way it is. Then if Twitter goes down and it looks like a good time to stop twittering, that is all good, and if not, he can change then.

Did he tweet much pre-politics?
That would settle it, maybe.

Seriously, Trump is displaying the old trick that the light drives out the darkness, and also, one drop of words coming from a truthful point of view destroys 20 years of carefully crafted false narrative.

How's that CO2 is an air pollutant fake news narrative doing. Morano's Climate Depote Website and Movie,Climate Hustle, has killed it, and the stink needs burying by realist scientists, such as Will Happer.

After World War I (AKA "The Great War"), France invested heavily in building the Maginot Line of fortifications. Unfortunately, they didn't put a roof over it and the Germans were able to fly at will. The press likes to serve as gatekeepers of information by choosing what does and does not get reported. Unfortunately for them, Trump is ready and willing to fly over their gates. This won't end well...for the press.

Interesting set of comments! Yet I have a take that Trump is quite clever with this narrative in several ways. Twitter is aghast about statements that Trump should be banned - Snapchat would be happy to receive his millions of followers. Secondarily, Trump's playing the Media again and they fall for it. But his statement of the "Media being dishonest" has a kernel of truth for it to be this effective. Anyone who believes the Media gives Trump favourable press is ignorant.

Trump is basically right. He tweets mostly in reaction to stuff. He doesn't come out of the blue to say, "hey guys, I got a great new pair of sturdy boots from LL Bean. You should buy some too!"

His tweets are starting to destabilize the media and the Left (redundant) - a loud bullhorn to 20 Million followers will do that.

The Press smeared him with a liberal culture and lost.

The Press smeared him with Soviet left-wing ideology and lost.

The Press smeared him with leaks from Clinton's Water Closet and incompetence of Podesta's Nigerian phishing expedition and lost.

Ironically, the Press, specifically JournoLists, foreign and domestic establishment, were a critical factor in the last election.

Obama and Clinton's axis of terrorism from Benghazi to Aleppo to Kiev didn't help.

More than simply dishonest. The more correct analogy are those dedicated people who fly balloons over the 38th parallel to communicate with the North Korean population.

I predict that Twitter, in its death throes will ban Trump in the next year or so- the pressure from the media will simply be too intense for them to hold.

What Trump says is pretty obviously true- most of what he tweets is in response to media stories about him and his supporters. That is what annoys the press the most- he goes right over the top of them directly to same mass audience. He should not only continue this, but find even more ways to do so.

I cringe when I hear a doctor speaking with a New York accent. As for "Once" calling Trump out on his northeastern speech pattern, you left wingers love doing that to southerners and mid-westerners. The rest of us recognize the differences in language and/or are more polite.

One of the most frustrating things about Bush was that he would not push back. That was a different Bush than the one who had been Texas Governor. He got closer to his CT roots and all that noblesse oblige elitism came in to play. Same nonsense that killed Romney.

What he did not take into account was that by not standing up for himself, he was not standing up for those who supported him. When the mainline Democrats that started the "Bush Lied, People Died" meme he should have named and shamed each one as reading and believing the same evidence he had. Some even demanded a second vote to get a "yes to war" on the record.

Trump pushes back. Good.

Reading how Trump tweets so much, I finally took a look for myself. Seems to spend ten minutes or so per "tirade".

No matter what he says, will not sway supporters, or haters. What it might do is get average people comparing what he tweets to what the MSM has said. That can only benefit Trump because it might sway some to his side. Doubtful any average uninformed voter would side with MSM.

Example, he tweeted about CNN doing ten minute interview with Kelly Anne , and editing it to one bad minute. To poorly educated blue collar guy, who did not bother to watch interview, that seems kinda dishonest.

If the name of the rag is “The New Yorker,” why would anyone like me, who lives happily someplace else, be interested in its insular, elitist, self-important bullshit? Fuck New York City, I’d much rather read Twitter and see the POTUS-elect expose MSM lies.

The media expects Trump to stand by, mute and docile, while they heap abuse upon him at will. Why do they expect this? Because most prominent non-liberals after the Reagan era allowed the MSM to spread their false narratives without opposition. In fact in many instances the eGOP actually joined in with the MSM lies and distortions. Present day media whores include Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham and the war hero and wannabe again media darling, John McCain. Fucking idiots.

I saw the future when Trump bypassed the media to post his first of many victory laps on youtube after sewing up the republican nomination. I hadn't really paid that much attention to him during the primaries except to watch clips of him kick Rubio and Cruz in the shins during the debates. As I was watching him I was thinking why not send a youtube telegram every day? In this day and age everyone has a phone or internet feed. Why go to Blockbuster to pick up a VHS tape when you have Netflix? The media as we know it is fucked (I suspect they know that too) I think trump should think bigger and dump twitter all together.

If the comments that "go against the local groupthink" are 1) uniformly obvious copy-pastes of the talking points sent out from Dem central that day (as anyone with a newsfeed can easily recognize), and if 2) the copy-paster demonstrates no capacity to engage in much beyond that copy-pasting, and if 3) said copy-paster is easily identifiable as a single individual sock-puppeting under many different names but the same easily identifiable user ID over an extended period of time, (or 3a, several "different" posters pop up out of nowhere in a short period of time, but again with the same user ID), then...

they are recognized, labeled, and treated as trolls.

There are long-time lefty commenters here whom nobody considers trolls, which would be obvious to any newcomer who took the trouble to look around and get to know the place.

Because, of course, the only reason someone could choose to use something other than the prestige register of American English is ignorance, right? It couldn't possibly be a deliberate effort to appeal to the bulk of the American people by deliberately speaking in a lower, "jes' folks" register. If you're not sending the "I'm a member of the elite" signal by adhering to rules of usage that were developed specifically to send that signal, it can only be that you don't know how to send that signal, not that you're choosing a register that signals your solidarity with the masses over the upper classes.

Well Lewis "became dishonest media" when he smeared members of the Tea Party peacefully protesting in DC as vicious racists who shouted racial slurs and spit on him. It didn't happen, but that's what he alleged (ie lied) and that's the story the Media ran with. So, you know, that's how he's the dishonest Media there.
Meryl Streep's a member of the Media...and her pose as a moral lecturer is itself a lie (as someone who stood up to applaud a convicted child rapist, etc), but that one's a little more esoteric, I'll grant.

Why do you guys keep making me side with Trump? If you just said "it's vulgar, unprofessional, and beneath the office of the President to Tweet like Trump does" I'd be happy to agree with you!
