"The newspapers reported that Boyle ran down a corridor shouting, 'I hate this show.'"

"The staff were concerned - something wasn't right. She looked lost. Not all there."

Susan Boyle, now under treatment for exhaustion.

When there is a history of anoxic brain injury in childhood, one can expect adults with: 'attention deficit, impaired planning and problem solving, inflexibility, impulsiveness, irritability, opposition and socially inappropriate behavior'.

It reminds me of how people react to my retarded brother. He's great in small doses. People gravitated to him because of his chronic childishness, but it begins to grate, and then you see his bad side, including temper tantrums. People who are caregivers for folks with dementia have similar experiences.

To expect otherwise is foolish. I feel very sorry for her.

Pogo, when you post something serious like that, my off-handed comment that Thank Goodness she didn't shave her head will sound awfully shallow!

But it does seem like we've seen this story arc before in others. The difference is now we get to see it in a woman who is pushing 50.

Sorry MM.

Actually, that is a great comment; I LOL'd.

In that vein, I'd say thank goodness she wears underpants, especially when exiting a car.

Susan is obviously an introvert with singing skills. But like all introverts, she HAS to get away from intense social interactions that have worn out of all of her energy. I always thought that Elvis Presley was an introvert with singing skills, but he had enough energy left until he reached Susan's age.FYI, extroverts get energy from intense social interactions, like Bill Clinton.

She has reached a level of fame that is invasive--not just for her and her audience but for innocent bystanders. I have very little interest in Brittney Spears, Angelina Jolie, or Paris Hilton but I find that I know more about them than is consistent with sane or even prurient interest. Their days and works simply do not justify the attention that they receive. They are famous not just for being famous but for the way they act out their fame.....Susan Boyle has no great reserves of wealth, good looks, or sanity to help her buffer the stresses of her life. She is a sympathetic person, and I hope things work out for her. But we know more about her than we ever signed on to. Her story will be exemplary not of her excesses but of the excesses of the press.

She is so very obviously an introvert. I'm one, too, and I feel for her. I can't even go to a family wedding without feeling drained. I'd never be able to handle what she's faced for the past few weeks.
